Helmet Found at Sutton Hoo

This Helmet was found at the Sutton Hoo Archaeological site. This site was composed of a collapsed burial chamber. Among various other treasures was this exceptionally rare helm. It was made of Iron and Copper assembling to cover a good amount of the head and neck.

Decorations on the helmet show a scene of a "Dancing Warrior and Fallen Warrior" (British Museum). Alongside various embellishments such as garnet eyes on animals. Aside from the Artwork, the decorated central ridge is a significant accent.

This Helmet is a great example of how the Viking held metalworking as their main feature of art rather than painting.
The craftsmen ship of this helmet is quite exquisite especially when comparing it to the false idea of it being created by the Barbaric Anglo-Saxons. I recommend going to these closer images as provided by the British Museum.

This is a replica produced by the royal armories showing what the helmet may have looked like to fellow Saxons from the time
