An Anglo-Saxon Lyre (Harp)





    Although many people think of the middle ages as being harsh and full of war, there were also many other things. The middle ages were full of all of the everyday things that we have today, besides the technological advancements. People in the middle ages played games and listened to music. Although they may not have had the music we have today, with Taylor Swift and Post Malone, they had their own music. One of the most important instruments during the Anglo-Saxon part of the middle ages was the Lyre. The Lyre is an early version of an English Harp. This Lyre was found in a tomb near London. The Lyre was made of wood and was decorated with jewels from either India or Sri Lanka. The Lyre was used to tell stories and heroic

  1. This is a cool artifact to feature! Having been involved with music for my whole life I think it's really important to highlight the history of some of the instruments that we have around today. I also really like that you linked today with the Middle Ages, that was really insightful!

  2. The image looks very different than I would imagine a lyre, or harp-like instrument to look. It is very interesting that archeologists and historians were able to decipher that from the artifact they found. Very cool!

  3. The image looks like it is only part of the whole. During the medieval ages music was a way of telling a story. Things like ballads.
